Backpack Battles Patch Notes 0.7.1

This week, Santa is bringing you a Christmas patch! It includes a new outfit for Ranger and two Unique items: The Present and Gingerbread Jerry!

Of course, we have a lot of balance adjustments for you, too! The item library also has a new feature: you can now filter for buffs & debuffs. Check out the full changelog below.

Patch notes for 0.7.1

  • NEW UNIQUE ITEM: Present
  • NEW UNIQUE ITEM: Gingerbread Jerry
  • NEW CHARACTER OUTFIT: Christmas Ranger
  • For the next week, the odds of finding a Unique are increased, especially for the new ones!

Balance

  • All attack speed is now additive (this makes speed from multiple sources like Gloves + Heat escalate less, but is mostly for clarity)
  • Reworked Topaz (Armor): Now gives Stun resistance instead
  • Reworked Emerald (Armor): Now gives Poison resistance instead
  • Potion Belt: Cleanse 3 -> 4
  • Torch: Stamina cost 0.7 -> 1.0, Damage increase chance 30% -> 25%
  • Burning Torch: Stamina cost 0.7 -> 1.0, Heat 3 -> 2, Damage increase chance 30% -> 25%

  • Tusk Piercer: Start of Battle Spikes 1 -> 2

  • Reworked Spiked Shield: Now keeps everything from Wooden Buckler and generates Spikes when it blocks something. (up to 3)

Patch notes for 0.6.1

We have big experimental changes this week – let’s find out together which ones we like.
Because of that class balance might be wonky for a bit, don’t worry, we have an eye on that 🙂

  • NEW ITEM: Lump of Coal

Balance

  • Both classes now start with more bags, more gold, less items
  • Reroll cost for the round is now scaled up after 3 and 9 rerolls
  • Subclasses are now picked in round 7 (down from 8)
  • Fancy Fencing Rapier: Cooldown 1.8s -> 1.7s
  • Mana Orb: Removed Mana limit and overflow effect
  • Reworked Manathirst: Removed Mana limit, life steal triggers on Mana gained and is increased by Vampirism. Accuracy 90% -> 100%
  • Falcon Blade: Cooldown 2s -> 2.2s
  • Carrot Goobert: Empower duration 5s -> 4s
  • Corrupted Crystal (Inventory): Cooldown 4.5s -> 5s
  • Mr. Struggles Cooldown 2.5s -> 3.0s
  • Piercing Arrow: Changed star shape, Luck chance 50% -> 40%
  • Reflect effects now reflect timed buff/debuff stacks with the same duration (this impacts Ruby Egg, Ruby Whelp and Mr. Struggles)
  • Steel Goobert: Block 14 -> 16
  • Death Scythe: Stamina cost 2 -> 1.5
  • Deck of Cards: Now gives +2 Luck at Start of battle
  • Lucky Piggy: Chance 20% -> 25%

Balance Changes

  • Reworked: Wooden Buckler/Spiked Shield/Shield of Valor now prevent damage instead of generating Block, with a slight increase in the amount to balance it out.
  • Sapphire (Weapon): Now triggers “On hit” instead of “On attack.”
  • Fancy Fencing Rapier: Cooldown reduced from 1.9s to 1.8s.
  • Mr Struggles: Speed Boost reduced from 150% to 100%.
  • Goobert: Heal amount adjusted from 12 to 11.
  • Light Goobert: Heal amount increased from 18 to 20.
  • Poison Goobert: Poison strength increased from 3 to 4.
  • Falcon Blade: Stamina cost increased from 0.7 to 1.0, bonus trigger speed reduced from 35% to 30%, cooldown extended from 1.8s to 2.0s.
  • Eggscalibur: Stamina cost reduced from 1.5 to 1.3.
  • Blood Harvester: Stamina cost decreased from 1.6 to 0.5, cooldown increased from 1.4s to 4.0s, and cost reduced from 14g to 12g.

Fixes

  • Resolved repeated clicks caused by a plugged-in controller.
  • Fixed some items that were never on sale.
  • Fixed an issue where an item was erroneously bought multiple times.

Other Updates

  • Added Options: Default battle speed, Window mode, FPS limit, Reduce FPS when the window is not focused, Mute when the window is not focused, Cursor size.
  • Brightened up the color of spike-damage numbers.
  • Combat log no longer displays Spikes and Vampirism activating for 0 damage/heal.
  • Added Fire particles to Ruby Egg/Whelp/Chonk.

Balance Adjustments

  • Uniques’ odds are back to normal, making Tim and Pumpkin as likely as other uniques.
  • Reworked Broom: No longer triggers an extra attack, gains +2 damage for the next attack. Accuracy improved from 85% to 95%, Blind Chance from 25% to 35%.
  • Lightsaber: Blind effect no longer stackable, now repeatable. Stamina Cost reduced from 1.5 to 1.2, Cooldown from 1.6 to 1.5, Blind increased from 6 to 8.
  • Pocket Sand is now a common item instead of rare.
  • Light Goobert: Blind increased from 5 to 6.
  • Tim’s weapon: Stealing effect now has a 66.6% chance.
  • Hammer: Stun chance reduced from 60% to 50%.
  • Cap of Resilience: Stun/crit resist chance increased from 10% to 15%.
  • Corrupted Crystal (Inventory): Cooldown reduced from 5s to 4.5s.
  • Mr. Struggles: Debuff chance reduced from 30% to 25%, Cooldown from 3s to 2.5s.
  • Stone: Cooldown increased from 3.5s to 4s, Accuracy decreased from 85% to 65%.
  • Healing Herbs: Regeneration increased from 1 to 2, Cost increased from 2g to 4g.
  • Strong Health Potion: Can now be crafted with 1 Healing Herbs.
  • Sapphire (Weapon): Mana gain reduced from 2 to 1, Chances increased.
  • Bow and Arrow: Stamina cost increased from 0.0 to 1.0, damage range increased from 6-8 to 6-9.
  • Steel Goobert: Block reduced from 18 to 14.
  • Falcon Blade: Cooldown increased from 1.4s to 1.8s, damage +1.
  • Eggscalibur: Damage +1.

Fixes

  • Mixed potions now mix colors more effectively.
  • Fixed Furcifer textbox size issue.
  • Addressed a Steamcloud-related problem, aiming to resolve savestates rolling back.
  • Card reveal animation corrected.
  • Multiple random uniques dropping issue fixed.
  • Updated Steam API integration to potentially resolve Linux-specific issues.
  • Items no longer get stuck above the screen.

Other Changes

  • Borders of bags with effects now highlighted when grabbing an item.
  • Items now highlighted when they can affect the grabbed item.
  • Storage box moved a bit down for more space.

Balance Adjustments

  • Stone: Cooldown increased from 3s to 3.5s.
  • Corrupted Crystal (Armor): Debuffs needed increased from 5 to 7 (generates Block less often now).
  • Emerald (Weapon & Armor): Increased chances.
  • Sapphire (Weapon): Decreased chances.
  • Pestilence Flask: Cost increased from 5g to 7g.
  • Cap of Resilience: Now also adds a 10% chance to resist a stun.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a rare case of multiple Djinn Lamps triggering off the same resources.
  • Addressed a bug where many opponent runs were seen as invalid, causing occasional lags when starting a fight and a smaller matchmaking pool.

Other Changes

  • Potions now display the color of their respective * potion.
  • Bags now play an animation when an item is placed inside them that they can affect.
  • Ranger’s Chibi sprite received an overhaul.

Balance Adjustments

  • Crossblades: Cooldown increased from 1.2s to 1.6s, speed scaling reduced from 5% to 3%.
  • Wooden Buckler: Chance increased from 25% to 35%, Block reduced from 6 to 3, stamina drain decreased from 1.0 to 0.5.
  • Spiked Shield: Spikes cap reduced from 3 to 2, Block needed for Spike generation increased from 20 to 30.
  • Shield of Valor: * items now give 30% more Block (no longer generates Block based on * items – slightly less Block overall, but easier to grasp).

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed RNG manipulation using the reserve button.
  • Mana Orb no longer triggers Emerald (Armor) and Topaz (Armor).
  • Leather Armor/Holy Armor now activate at the start of battle.
  • Fixed a rare case where the Deck of Cards could be rolled twice.

Other Changes

  • Crafted items that get larger now search for a free space in the inventory instead of always being pushed to storage.
  • Recipe book now shows the stars of an item.
  • Unavailable recipes for your class can no longer be started.
  • Improved visuals for empty star slots.
  • Added shopkeeper hints to teach players how to reserve an item and that bags can be moved.
  • Renamed Rib Saw Blade to Ripsaw Blade.
  • Updated many tooltips to use a highlighted condition in front (e.g., 5 Mana gained: do something).
  • Shopkeeper now starts talking when leaving the shop instead of when hovering the “Start Backpack Battle” sign.

Inventory Management Enhancement

  • Bags can now be placed onto other filled bags, allowing for item swapping and removal of items that don’t fit.

User Interface Improvements

  • Item rarity distribution is now displayed in a tooltip when hovering over the “Shop” sign in the top right.
  • The Push-to-Storage button is now more physical, making it harder to click accidentally and more enjoyable.
  • The Storage box can now be lifted for no particular reason, adding a touch of fun.

Balance Adjustments

  • Reaper now starts with a Dagger instead of a Fly agaric.
  • Piercing Arrow: Green tiles moved for easier placement. Generating Luck no longer counts as an activation.

  • Blood Harvester: Stamina cost reduced from 1.8 to 1.6.
  • Blueberries: Cooldown increased from 3.0s to 3.5s.
  • Poison Goobert: Now applies 3 Poison but needs 5 activations.
  • Steel Goobert: Damage increase reduced from +3 to +2, Block gain increased from 18 to 20.
  • Blood Goobert: Base lifesteal increased from 5 to 8.
  • Leather Armor: Block increased from 40 to 45.
  • Holy Armor: Block increased from 45 to 55.
  • Strong Health Potion: Heal increased from 15 to 18.
  • Stoneskin Potion: Convert increased from 15 to 30 (previously 6 to 16).
  • Strong Stoneskin Potion: Convert increased from 15 to 35 (previously 8 to 24). Now also gives 3 Spikes for 3s.
  • Falcon Blade: Damage range increased from 2-4 to 3-4.
  • Wooden Buckler: Block chance reduced from 30% to 25%.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed tooltip of multiple fanny packs still displaying 10%.
  • Gems now show sockets when hovered.
  • Fixed Vampiric Gloves stars appearing filled too often.
  • Corrected Ranger’s arm position in relation to items.
  • Green lines between Hammer and Piggybank now display correctly.
  • Fixed crafting particles sometimes going in the wrong direction.
  • Addressed some visual issues with blue lines.
  • Fixed instances of the player grabbing the wrong of two overlapping items.
  • Fixed some tooltips not closing.
  • Item throwing now also works with vsync enabled.
  • Fixed socket games sometimes being in the wrong layer.
  • Fixed missing items from some inventories.
  • Resolved a networking issue.

  • Added a Fatigue sub-tooltip.
  • Improved the Food sub-tooltip.
  • Made empty stars more distinguished from filled stars.
