Tier List Overview Criteria

  • T0: This is the highest tier in a tier list, reserved for the most powerful or effective options in the game. Characters or strategies in this tier are considered to be essential picks for competitive play and are often banned in tournaments.
  • T1: This tier is just below T0-tier and includes characters or strategies that are still very strong and effective, but not quite as dominant as those in the T0-tier.
  • T2: This tier includes characters or strategies that are considered to be average or balanced in terms of their strength and effectiveness. They may have some strengths and weaknesses, but they are not as dominant as those in the higher tiers.
  • T3: This is the lowest tier in a tier list, reserved for the weakest or least effective options in the game. Characters or strategies in this tier are often considered to be inferior to other options and may be rarely used in competitive play.

It’s important to note that the exact definitions and criteria for each tier can vary depending on the game and the community creating the tier list. Additionally, a character or strategy’s placement in a tier list is not always an accurate reflection of its overall strength or effectiveness, as factors such as player skill and game balance can also play a significant role.

FF14 Jobs

Black Mage

The Black Mage is a formidable Caster DPS Class renowned for harnessing the elemental powers in the heat of battle. With the ability to engulf foes in scorching flames and then swiftly freeze and shatter them with potent Ice-based spells, their arsenal is truly devastating. However, the Black Mage does face certain challenges due to their casting nature, such as relatively low defenses and limited mobility caused by the need to remain stationary while casting.

Despite these drawbacks, the Black Mage’s damage output is remarkably high, overshadowing any shortcomings. To truly master this class, one must become intimately familiar with various encounters, as prematurely moving before completing a cast can result in significant loss of damage per second (DPS).

The Black Mage stands as one of the more complex DPS Jobs in FF XIV, making it nearly impossible to achieve flawless performance in encounters that demand positional changes. The intricacy of their rotation further adds to the challenge. Nevertheless, Black Mages consistently rank among the top DPS Jobs in FF XIV Tier Lists, attesting to their current strength. If you seek a true test of skill, look no further, for as a Black Mage, your competition lies in surpassing your own previous accomplishments rather than outperforming other damage dealers in your group.

Samurai

The Samurai class is a melee DPS option that offers a highly dynamic and satisfying rotation focused on building and spending resources. Engaging in combat as a Samurai feels remarkably smooth, as their resources naturally generate throughout their combo sequences. With a relatively straightforward rotation, Samurai stands out as one of the strongest choices for beginners aiming to make significant DPS contributions.

In terms of damage output, the Samurai possesses the potential to unleash truly staggering amounts of damage, particularly when favorable RNG factors into the equation. However, it’s important to note that the Samurai’s primary role revolves around excelling in DPS alone, offering minimal group utility. While this might appear selfish on the surface, the sheer DPS output of the Samurai more than compensates for this lack of utility.

The Samurai’s simplicity, which allows even below-average players to perform well in this role, combined with its unmatched potential for DPS, secures its place in the prestigious S Tier. If your goal is to climb the FF XIV DPS Rankings effortlessly, the Samurai class presents itself as the perfect choice.

Machinist

The Machinist class in FF XIV stands out as a truly intriguing DPS option. This engineer-like ranged damage dealer wields guns and employs an array of technological inventions, including turrets and automatons, to unleash devastating attacks from a significant distance. While the Machinist’s flavor and mechanics are undeniably unique and captivating, its gameplay aligns closely with that of standard ranged DPS classes, ensuring a smooth adjustment for players familiar with such roles.

With the release of the Shadowbringers expansion, the Machinist underwent substantial changes and improvements. Many adjustments were made, RNG elements were eliminated, and the ammunition resource was replaced, resulting in an exceptionally refined class. These enhancements have positioned the Machinist as a formidable force in the game.

Notably, the Machinist surpasses other Physical Ranged Damage Dealers with ease, a fact reinforced by numerous FF XIV DPS Rankings. While the Machinist offers a modest amount of utility, its true strength lies in its unparalleled ability to swiftly switch targets. As masters of eliminating additional enemies, Machinists prove invaluable in encounters featuring multiple targets that require rapid disposal. Their exceptional DPS capabilities and overall versatility firmly secure their place in the coveted S Tier of our rankings.

Summoner

Micromanagement is at the core of playing as a Summoner in FF XIV. To excel at this Job, one must closely monitor and manage a plethora of elements, including pets, Damage over Time effects, job-specific resources, and unique mechanics. While the Summoner’s playstyle may be considered complex, mastering it brings great rewards, including significant group utility such as the ability to resurrect fallen allies.

The Summoner ranks among the most mobile Jobs, leveraging their Damage over Time effects to excel in encounters involving multiple targets. Although the Shadowbringers expansion has slightly adjusted their power, the Summoner remains one of the most formidable Damage Dealers in the game. Their exceptional mobility allows them to perform admirably in any encounter, while the versatility of their offensive toolkit ensures consistent DPS output across various scenarios.

If you seek a high-performing Job that thrives in diverse combat situations, the Summoner is an excellent choice. While it falls within the “good” tier rather than the top “S” tier, this placement is due to the Black Mage slightly surpassing it (and to avoid having two caster Jobs at the very top).

Dragoon

The Dragoon class stands out as one of the most visually stunning DPS Jobs in the game. Its rotation revolves around agile and frequent jumping maneuvers, resulting in some of the longest combos available. The playstyle of the Dragoon is highly satisfying and dynamic, although it should be noted that certain skills require precise positioning. While the leaps and bounds of the Dragoon are visually impressive, they also pose a significant risk—being caught mid-air by a boss’s area-of-effect attack can prove fatal.

Executing the Dragoon’s combos properly yields a tremendous impact and offers immense satisfaction. Moreover, the Job provides solid utility by offering notable DPS buffs to all party members.

In terms of pure damage output, the Dragoon remains competitive, although it does face some minor skill-related challenges. Certain encounters may hinder the Dragoon’s ability to perform at their peak due to mechanics specifically designed to counter their jumping attacks. Engaging in these maneuvers during such encounters can swiftly lead to demise. Despite this drawback, the Dragoon remains an impressive performer, particularly when considering the group-wide DPS boost it brings to the table.

Ninja

The Ninja class is an exceptional choice for raid content in FF XIV. While its personal DPS may not rank as the absolute highest, it remains highly competitive. What truly sets the Ninja apart is the outstanding utility it brings to the group. The signature skill of the Ninja, Trick Attack, alone secures its place in any party composition. Trick Attack significantly amplifies the target’s damage taken, leading to enhanced performance for everyone and higher standings in the FF XIV DPS Rankings.

Mechanically, the Ninja presents a considerable challenge to master, but the effort is rewarded with a highly satisfying gameplay experience. If you seek a Job that goes beyond individual damage output and focuses on elevating the group’s overall performance, the Ninja is an excellent choice. While it may encounter some difficulties due to its melee nature—juggling mechanics, maintaining DPS uptime, and staying within melee range—the Ninja’s personal DPS remains solid.

In terms of utility, the Ninja shines brilliantly. Its Trick Attack stands as one of the most potent damage-boosting abilities in the game, and the rest of its utility kit proves to be exceptionally reliable. Choose the Ninja if you desire a Job that not only excels in personal performance but also significantly enhances the group’s effectiveness.

Dancer

The Dancer class in FF XIV operates as a Ranged Physical DPS Job with a primary focus on providing group support. Its combo mechanics offer an interesting and enjoyable gameplay experience, although they can be prone to randomness and occasional frustration. Dancers possess a unique repertoire of buffs that enhance their own performance as well as that of a chosen partner, referred to as a “dance partner.” While this buff’s impact is relatively minor in raid groups, it proves highly effective in small dungeon groups. Additionally, Dancers are visually captivating, boasting skill animations that rank among the most visually appealing in the game.

In terms of damage output, the Dancer falls behind many melee and caster DPS Jobs. If not for its exceptional utility kit, it would likely be categorized as an “average” Job. While playing solo, the Dancer can feel somewhat underwhelming. However, its effectiveness significantly improves when operating within a group. For this reason, we recommend the Dancer to players who primarily main Healers and seek to transition into a DPS role. The Dancer’s utility kit will provide a sense of familiarity for Healers, while its DPS rotations will facilitate a seamless transition into the realm of damaging Jobs.

Red Mage

The spot occupied by the Red Mage on our list is undeniably contentious. However, it is worth noting that the Red Mage shines as one of the best Jobs for beginners. It delivers reliable damage and operates with straightforward mechanics, making it remarkably easy to learn. The Red Mage boasts few pitfalls to avoid, further contributing to its beginner-friendly nature. In terms of utility, the Job is solid, being one of only two classes with access to the resurrection ability.

However, it must be acknowledged that both the Black Mage and Summoner surpass the Red Mage in terms of caster-type damage dealing. This remains the primary drawback of the Red Mage.

Nevertheless, the Red Mage stands as a dependable Caster DPS Job, particularly following recent changes. While it currently resides between the good and average tiers in our rankings, there is a possibility of it being elevated to a higher tier in the near future. Despite its current placement, we wholeheartedly recommend the Red Mage to players who enjoy playing as a Caster but desire a more accessible alternative to the Summoner or even the Black Mage.

Monk

The Monk class distinguishes itself from other Jobs by utilizing its entire body as a formidable weapon, forgoing the need for traditional weaponry. As a melee DPS Job, the Monk may initially appear easy to learn. However, it is deceptive, as it features complex combo abilities that demand constant attentiveness and agility. This unconventional approach, while potentially rewarding, deviates from the rotational schemes of other Jobs, leading to confusion and frustration, particularly for veteran FF XIV players.

If it were not for the perplexing mechanics that challenge many players, the Monk would rightfully claim a spot in the “good” tier. Despite its intricate nature, the Monk remains a solid performer. However, its uniqueness can create a sense of unfamiliarity and make it feel somewhat off when compared to other Jobs. In our opinion, the Monk is the Job that could benefit the most from a rework to streamline its mechanics and enhance its overall cohesiveness.

Bard

The Bard Job stands out as one of the more mobile DPS options, thanks to its instant-cast abilities that allow executing combos while on the move. However, its overall damage output does not reach exceptional levels. Fortunately, the Bard offers much more than just damage, excelling at supporting allies during combat. Through the Song mechanic, the Bard can bestow powerful buffs upon themselves and their teammates, ranging from increased hit rates and reduced damage taken to enhanced healing received. Mechanically, the Bard proves surprisingly easy to learn, making it an excellent choice for new players.

The Bard thrives when operating within a group, showcasing its true potential. Unfortunately, in the current patch, the Bard’s utility alone does not compensate for its somewhat lackluster damage performance. As a result, we have positioned it in the “average” tier in our rankings. The primary factor behind this placement is the overlapping role it shares with the Dancer, with the latter slightly outperforming the Bard overall.
